Pharyngitis is inflammation of the pharynx. That is located in the back of the throat. it is referred to a sore throat. Pharyngitis can cause difficulty in swallowing. a pharyngitis-induced sore throat is one of the most common reasons for doctor visits. It is one of the reasons for people staying at home. In order to properly treat a sore throat, it’s important to identify its cause. It can be caused by virus infection. 

The symptoms of pharyngitis

  • sneezing
  • a runny nose
  • headache
  • chillis
  •  a low-grade fever with a cold and higher-grade fever with the flu

The length of the contagious period will also depend on your underlying condition. If you have a viral infection. you will be contagious until your fever runs its course. If you have strep throat. The common cold usually lasts less than 10 days. If pharyngitis is associated with a cold virus, you can expect your symptoms to last this duration of time.

 

Risk Factors for Pharyngitis

Risk factors for pharyngitis include the following:

  • Cold and flu seasons
  • Having close contact with someone who has a sore throat or cold
  • Smoking or exposure to smoke
  • Allergies
  • Attending daycare

Medications for Pharyngitis

If your sore throat is caused by a virus, antibiotics won’t help and it will go away on its own within five to seven days.However, antibiotics can help if your sore throat is caused by the following:

  • Strep throat
  • Chlamydia or gonorrhea

Home Remedies for Pharyngitis

The following remedies may help soothe a sore throat:

  • Getting rest
  • Avoiding alcohol
  • Quit Smoking
  • Drinking warm liquids, such as lemon tea or tea with honey
  • Gargling with warm salt water (1/2 tsp of salt in 1 cup of water) throughout the day
  • Drinking cold liquids
  • Sucking on hard candies or throat lozenges
  • Running a cool-mist vaporizer or humidifier
